More than 120 stu­dents com­pet­ed in the south zone of the bpTT Sec­ondary Schools Scrab­ble cham­pi­onships held at Na­pari­ma Girls High School, San Fer­nan­do on Sat­ur­day.

St Joseph's Con­vent and AS­JA Girls' Col­lege took top places in the se­nior and ju­nior cat­e­gories of the com­pe­ti­tion, re­spec­tive­ly. Not to be out­done, how­ev­er, the boys were well rep­re­sent­ed as Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege cap­tured ten of the 20 south zone spots at stake for the grand fi­nals.

The cham­pi­onships have been joint­ly or­gan­ised by the Scrab­ble As­so­ci­a­tion (TTSA) and the Ro­tary Club of Ari­ma. En­er­gy com­pa­ny bpTT has spon­sored the com­pe­ti­tion since 2010.

The cham­pi­onships are di­vid­ed in­to five zones-East, South, Cen­tral, North and To­ba­go-with ten se­niors and ten ju­niors from each zone ad­vanc­ing to the grand fi­nals card­ed for City Hall, Port-of-Spain, on No­vem­ber 3. Top schools in both di­vi­sions will re­ceive tro­phies and cash prizes of $10,000 with the top stu­dents win­ning iPads, PlaySta­tions, net­books and Kin­dles.
