RANG X1 earned the last spot in the round of 16 knock out stage of the Norman Windball Cricket League (NWCL) when they defeated Rhum X1 by seven wickets in a Group D contest at the Tacarigua Community Centre, last weekend.
Needing to win to get the nod over Mix-up-Boys to advance to the next phase, Ranga easily overhauled the 61 for seven set by its opponents as they crossed the line on 62 for three. Leading the run chase for the winners was Rishad Ali, who hit 27.
Keston Moonesar took two for 14 bowling for Rhum, whose topscorer was Miguel Gregorio (15) when they batted. Dwayne Joseph (three for eight) and Riaff Ali (two for six) were the most outstanding bowlers for Ranga X1.
The 16 teams for the round of 16 for his campaign are followed; defending champions Spring Village, Alejandra X1 Madras United and Coolers Boys (Group A); Take & Past A, Associates, Tacarigua Recruits, Legacy (Group B); Winners, Bamboo All Stars, New Generation and Take & Past B (Group C) and Base Boys, Gameover, Gold Star Surrey, Ranga X1 (Group D).
In the women's division, Tamana United scored an impressive six-wicket triumph over Desert United, with Crystal Cabralis, Stacy Bolah and Monica Abraham taking two wickets apiece. Batting first, Desert United could only mustered 32 for seven its allotment of ten overs, while Tamana replied with 33 for four.
Despite its recent setback, Desert United will join Tamana United, Combine Force, Talk Nah, Cricket Lovers, Victors, Trainees and Players in the quarter-finals of the NWCL.
