Woodward, Lee Quay rain goals in Woodbrook

Defence Force’s Javon Woodward, and Queen’s Park CC’s Shawn Lee Quay, both scored beaver-tricks to help their respective clubs secure comfortable victories when the T&T Hockey Board Men’s Indoor Championship continued at Woodbrook Youth Centre, Hamilton Holder Street, Woodbrook, on Wednesday night.
 
Woodward, a member of the senior national team fired in two goals in the seventh minute followed by second-half strikes in the 31st and 34th as Defence Force made it two straight victories by crushing Corona Fatima 9-2 after falling behind 0-2 inside the first five minutes.
 
Shane Legerton added two goals for Defence Force while national duo Marcus James and Mickell Pierre as well as former national foward, Neil Lashley were also on target in the win, after Ryan Daniel and Jordan Vieira handed Fatima a surprise 2-0 lead with items in the second and fifth minute of the 40-minute match.
 
At the top of the seven-team standings on goal difference over Defence Force and defending champion Petrotrin is Queen’s Park, which spanked Malvern 8-4 led by Lee Quay’s goals in the 13th, 15th, 36th and 37th minutes.
 
Dominic Young (two) and Evan Farrell and Cade Lue Sue added one each for the Parkites while the quartet of Jamal Job, Jemuel Romeo, Jason Clarke and Darryl Hume-Duncan got one each for Malvern.
 
Petrotrin also secured another win, 6-2 over Notre Dame with Nicholas Triston Grant and Solomon Eccles scoring two each, and Jonathan Williams and Atiba Whittington the others. For the Dames, national junior team players Shaquille Daniel and Kenny Kansinally got one apiece.
 
In the Mixed Veterans Division, Malvern’s Shawn “Barney” Alexander and Queen’s Park’s Raphael Govia scored a hat-trick each in wins over Petrotrin and Notre Dame.
 
Alexander’s goals came in the 11th, 23rd and 24th minutes while former national standout Anthony “Bumper” Marcano and ex-national coach David Francois added one each in Malvern’s 6-1 whipping of the Oilmen while Govia scored his third hat-trick in two days, in the third, eighth, and 12th minutes in the Parkites’ 5-1 defeat of the Dames.
