Despite facing one of the trickiest opponents of the season, Harvard, which overthrew Caribs at the top of the T&T Rugby Football Union (T&TRFU) Toyota Championship Division last week, remains favourite for a victory when it travels to President's Ground, St Ann's, to challenge third-placed Stag Trinidad Northern, from 4 pm today. With today's round being the third to last, the title is Harvard's to lose.
While there is no overwhelming favourite between Harvard and Northern, Caribs, which sits only three points back in second place, may easily return to the top at the end of the match if Harvard fails to take at least four points from its encounter. Very little separated the two teams when they met in August, but it was Harvard who took the win and four points after a 16-13 scoreline. The same two teams are scheduled to meet in the Marcus Minshall Knockout Cup final later this month.
Caribs face Royalians, also at 4 pm, at Caribs Ground, Queen's Park Savannah, and if the latter team was complacent in its loss against Harvard last weekend, coach Brendan O'Farrell's men will not be making the same errors in its must-win match. Despite facing the same opposition which stunned all and sundry in the Marcus Minshall quarterfinal with a win, Royalians will have a much more daunting task against Caribs, which has only one title left to play for, the league (with the exception of the Bruno Browne Cup).
The two teams met back in August, with Caribs snatching a 33-18 win. The day's other Championship Division match will see third-from-bottom Rainbow host rock bottom Police, in Marabella, at the same time.
