Reigning cross-country women’s 6K silver medallist, Tonya Nero, is heavily favoured to take the women’s 6k title, as the local cross country season begins today at Sevilla Golf Course, Couva, from 2 pm. The first race is the Open Under-15 2km, to be followed by the Junior 4K at 2.30pm. The Open 6K starts at 3.15 pm. In last year’s race Jelani Braithwaite and Kermisha Serapio took the boys and girls 2K events respectively while Akeem Marshall took the junior 6K contest. Shane Barran (Men’s 8K) and Donicia Antoine (Women’s 4K) were the other winners. All are expected to be in action today. Braithwaite will be stepping up to the junior 6K category and will face Marshall.

Double Carifta gold medallist Mark London will start as favourite should he make the trip from Tobago. Serapio will be going for another girls 2K title while Barran and Antoine will be aiming at  consecutive wins on the Couva course. Registration is free.  Interested persons can contact NAAA’s chairman of the Road Running, Cross Country and Race Walking Committee, Durly Lucas at 685-0820 or [email protected].
