Former champions, St Augustine will have its eyes set on going second on the East Zone BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League table, when it travels to Trinity East for a re-scheduled first round match from 3.45 pm today.

The “Green Machine,” as St Augustine is called, currently sits in third spot with 17 points from nine matches, four adrift of leaders Arima North while San Juan North is second with 20 points, and a win today will keep it right in the title race, ahead of Wednesday’s crucial encounter with defending champion and fourth placed El Dorado East.

On Saturday, with East Zone leaders’ Arima North (21 points) on a bye, San Juan North and St Augustine both picked up comfortable victories to narrow the gap at the top while Trinity East stunned defending champion El Dorado East.

At Bourg Mulatresse, Angelo Le Andre got goals in the 54th and 82nd minutes while Andel Andrews (50th) and Shaquille Charles (86th) got one each for San Juan North in its 4-0 thrashing of Toco to improve to 20 points from nine matchers, one behind Arima North ahead of their meeting on Wednesday at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.

The “Green Machine” went one better at its Warren Street home ground spanking El Dorado West 5-0 led by two goals from Jordan Devenish while Ricardo John, Akeem Garcia and Nicholas Marcano added one each to carry their points tally to 17, one more than El Dorado East which went under to a 15th minute strike from Trinity East’s Marcelle Springer.

In the Central Zone, defending champion and front-runners Carapichaima East led by a third beaver-trick of the campaign from the league’s top scorer, Shaquille Holder (23 goals) crushed cellar-placed Gasparillo 12-0.

Holder netted in the seventh, 48th, 53rd and 83rd minute for “Caps” while Shaquille Johnson, Joshua Eneau and Kern Alexis chipped in with two goals for the winners who led 4-0 at the half.

The win pushed Carapichaima to 18 points from seven matches, one ahead of Chaguanas North which trounced hosts Couva West 3-0 with Jerren Hall, Keigan Edwards and David Maloney all on target to stay in title contention while Presentation and Tabaquite drew 2-2.

Across in Tobago, leaders Scarborough and second placed Speyside battled to a 2-2 draw at Dwight York Stadium, Training Field, Bacolet while Mason Hall picked up its first win after three draws, 3-1 over cellar-placed Roxborough at Plymouth Recreation Ground.
