Trinidadian triathletes dominated the Barbados Triathlon last Sunday at Spring Garden, Barbados, winning both the Olympic and Sprint races.
National champion, Ancil Greene, had to come from behind in the run-leg of swim/ride/run event to beat Grenada's Marc de Caul into second place.
Greene's winning time for the 1,500m swim/40km cycle/10km run event was 2:o8.26, while de Caul's time was 2:10.50.
German national, Alexandra Consten, living in T&T, was third overall in 2:14.29, and first among the women. Only 11 athletes took on the gruelling Olympic challenge.
The sprint event, which is half the Olympic distance, saw T&T triathletes taking the top four spots, with Shape Shop's 17-year-old Nicholas Mitchell winning in a time of 1:04.37, with RWTC's James Amow second in 1:06.54, Aleem Mohammed, third, in 1:09.11 and Brian Jobity, fourth, in 1:09.58,both of Shape Shop.
Ravi Maraj, coach, manager of the T&T team, also placed 13th in the event, in 1:26.11. Talented teenager Chelsea Mohammed did not finish.
Twenty-four triathletes competed in this event. T&T was assisted by the T&T Triathlon Federation, Guru Health Foods and Shape Shop Health Club.
