An unorthodox 65th minute strike from Jahhan Hernandez was sufficient to allow both teams a share of the spoils, as WASA FC walked away with another impressive result, a 1-1 draw away to bmobile Joe Public, to remain on top of the blink/ bmobile National Super League standings, yesterday.

After WASA defeated champions Joe Public 1-0 in the first leg encounter earlier this season, the “Water Boys” have not looked back, and have since made its may to the helm of the table, where it now seeks to dethrone the 2011 treble winning club.

Both teams were equal throughout the first half, but a brilliant solo effort from Ellis Dyett with just seconds remaining in the first stanza, gave Joe Public a deserved 1-0 lead into half time.

Joe Public, returning for the second half, would have been poised to take full points had it not been for the dismissal of Julian Landeau in the 55th, who received a straight red card for what the referee deemed an intentional elbow to an opposition player, albeit against the host’s protests.

Only ten minutes passed before WASA found the all important and possible title-saving goal, through its top scorer Jahhan Hernandez, whose cross-come-strike was misjudged in an attempt to punch away by Joe Public’s custodian Jevon Bourne.

The match ended with both teams hoping for a big upset in south as Siparia Spurs was scheduled to host third-placed title challengers Westside Superstarz. The match, however, failed to kick off due to the extreme weather conditions.

Westside, now trails WASA by five points, but has two matches in hand, against Real Maracas and now Siparia Spurs.
