T&T international Kristin Thompson scored a beaver-trick as Paragon put defending champions, Notre Dame on the brink of elimination with a 6-3 thumping in the T&T Hockey Board Indoor Championship Women's Open Division at Woodbrook Youth Centre, Hamilton-Holder Street, Woodbrook on Friday night.
Thompson scored in the fourth, fifth, 30th and 37th minutes for Paragon which led 3-1 at the half-time interval with Shanice Cudjoe (eighth minute) and Zene Henry (26th) the other scorers to improve to seven points from four matches, the same as Shandy Carib Magnolias, and still in the semifinal hunt.
The Dames, meanwhile got a hat-trick from Belgium-based national forward Blair Wynne in the fourth, 33rd and34th minute but stayed on three points from four matches, and must beat Maritime Harvard Checkers (six points) tomorrow to advance.
In the men's Open, Guyana's Jerazeno Bell fired in a beaver-trick for Queen's Park to clobber Corona Fatima 9-4 for its fifth straight win from as many matches to be the top seed ahead of the semifinals with a match left to play.
Shawn Lee Quay and Dominic Young added two goals each for the Parkites while veteran player, Raphael Govia and Khadeem Fortune got one apiece. For Fatima, which has no chance of qualification for the semifinals after its fifth straight loss, Dev Lum Kit got two and Andrew Vieira and Ryan Daniel one each.
Paragon also secured an important win without breaking a sweat after defending champions Petrotrin, second with ten points from five matches defaulted due to their players involvement in a national team training camp. The 5-0 win saw Paragon join Defence Force on seven points but the latter has two matches left to play while Paragon has one against Fatima.
And in the mixed Veterans, the trio of Ronald Dell, Nigel Simon and Kern Ramsammy were all on target for Carib in a 3-0 shut-out of Police to join Notre Dame in third spot with six points, nine behind the perfect Parkites while Malvern is second with nine.
