The local trio of Taryk Sampson, Anthony Samuel and Yafeu Rougier along with prominent youth coach Dion La Foucade will leave tomorrow for Barbados where they will join 29 other players and coaches for the one-week Digicel Academy hosted by England Premiership club and European Champions League winner, Chelsea.
Looking ahead to the camp, Chelsea's Foundation International Development Manager Ian Woodroffe said it will be a huge opportunity for the 32 youngsters from nine countries and the US state of Miami to spend a week training under coaches from Chelsea.
He said, "I'm sure the players are very excited about this fantastic programme and opportunity created by Digicel. From a Chelsea FC Foundation coaches' perspective, we ultimately want all the players to join us with lots of energy and an open mind to enjoy, engage, learn and benefit from their experiences gained from the training. This is further enhanced by the exposure and cultural interaction with many other players from all across the Caribbean.
"Being away from home is not something that the players should be apprehensive of. Many of the players are in the same position plus they also won't necessarily know each other. The detail and planning from Digicel and Chelsea is to the finest point. I'm sure this will
be a positive opportunity that could encourage the players to explore the globe further given the opportunity in the future."
The selected players to take part in the academy includes, Evord Castillo, Oshuan Breary, Kevin Gomez (Panama); Desire Jonel, Demorin Reginald, Dieujuste Barthelmy, Jean-Jacques Eddyson, Victor Vladimir (Haiti); Donnegy Fer, Sorencio Juliaans, Anfernee Kleberg (Suriname); Ajanni Ambrose, Kareem Woodroofe, Trent Peters (Grenada); Anthony Samuel, Yafeu Rougier, Tayrk Sampson (T&T); Ridel Stanislas, Luc Miller, Shadrach Henry (St Lucia); Ja'mar Harris-Smith, Raheem Oneil, Tahir Omarie (St Kitts/Nevis); Ricardo Dennis, Shane Sterling, Duhaney Williams (Jamaica); Jese Feranand, Jayson Isaacs, Zachary Atkinson (Miami); Shakille Belle, Sebastian Hunte, Ramar Millar (Barbados).
