Minister of Sport Anil Roberts will meet with community coordinators and regional managers of the Life Sport Programme at the Larry Gomes Stadium today at 1 pm.
The Life Sport programme, the brainchild of Roberts, got underway in August, at 33 centres throughout the country and caters for unemployed males between the ages of 16-25. The programme would be conducted over two years and during this time the youths would undergo training in football, basketball, cricket, life skill training as well as numeracy, literacy and modern technology.
The main aim is to use the medium of sport and life skill in an effort to assist in the reduction of crime and criminal activities. Several former national players are involved in the programme as coordinators, regional managers and coaches. Among them are former national players include Derek King, Angus Eve, Ancil Elcock, Anthony Rougier, Reynold Carrington, Wesley Webb, Aneil Rajah and Suruj Mahabir.
