Scarborough Secondary soared into the final of the Coca-Cola Tobago InterCol competition after handing Roxborough Secondary a 5-0 whipping in the second match of a last four double-header, staged at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, yesterday.
The simple win saw Scarborough seal a place in the title deciding match against Speyside, which defeated Mason Hall, 4-3 in an exciting opening fixture. Scarborough, which emerged league winners, while unbeaten this campaign, opened the semifinal with a 4-0 half-time lead, through goals from Davion David (3rd), Mickael Gordon (19th), Kelon James (26th) and Agyei Duncan 48th).
Gordon scored again with five minutes left to record a brace and an emphatic win, against Roxborough, a team which defeated the Tobago title holders in the quarterfinal stage. The opening match, however, was not as straightforward. Speyside, which opened the scoring in the 12th minute via a Terquil Mahabal effort, found itself back to square one when Akini James leveled for Mason Hall with a minute left in the first half. Speyside took its second lead of the match when Brandon Benjamin found the back of the net in the 47th minute. But, Speyside again lost its lead, and went down 3-2, with Mason Hall scoring in the 58th and 72nd minutes, through Chevi McMillan and Hakeem Legalle, respectively.
However, Speyside, which ended their league campaign in second position responded with another goal from Benjamin in the 79th minute, before he scored the match winner in the 84th minute, to seal a hat-trick. The two teams, Speyside and Scarborough will meet in the final on Sunday, at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, from 4 pm.
Quarterfinal action will continue tomorrow in the East and North Zones, with double headers in each division. Up North, defending National InterCol champions St Anthony's College will open its account against newly promoted Malick Secondary, from 3 pm, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. St Mary's College will face Queen's Royal College (QRC), in the second fixture at 5 pm. At the Larry Gomez Stadium, the second two quarterfinals will be contested, when Arima North tackles Valencia, at 2 pm, followed by El Dorado East's clash with Trinity College East.
There will be no action on Tuesday. However, a day later, the final round of last-eight matches will play in the South Zone. Presentation College of San Fernando will meet either Fyzabad or Mayaro, from 3 pm, before St Benedict's takes on Princes Town at 5 pm. The two matches will play at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
