Stephan Mouttet scored a first half brace as host T&T came from behind to defeat Barbados 3-1 in its final match of the four-team men's round-robin Federation of International Hockey (FIH) World League round one qualifiers to secure a second round spot in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next February, on Saturday night.
Going into the match at National Hockey Centre, Tacarigua, the Darren Cowie-led T&T needed a victory to advance but found itself trailing to a 20th minute Justin Catlin goal which silenced the home crowd.
However, the Bajans lead only lasted eight minutes before Queen's Park's Stephan Mouttet drew T&T level and four minutes later he added another for the host to lead 2-1 at the half.
Within a minute of the restart, Petrotrin's Dwain Quan Chan sealed T&T's passage to Brazil next February when he fired in his team's third item after which T&T dominated without adding to its tally.
With the win, its third from as many matches, T&T ended top of the four-team table with maximum nine points, three more than fellow second round qualifiers Chile which spanked Venezuela 6-1 in the earlier men's match led by two goals each from Jan Richter and Martin Rodriguez.
As a bonus for T&T, Cowie was also voted as the Most Valuable Player while goalkeeper Andrey Rocke, back with the national team after a two year absence was voted as the Best Goalkeeper.
Earlier on Saturday, the local women ended third in their six-team round-robin series to join tournament winners Canada and runner-up Uruguay as qualifiers for the next round, also carded for Rio, next February.
