LONDON-Reggae Boyz target Jermaine Beckford scored his first goal in nearly two months as Huddersfield Town put Charlton Athletic out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory here yesterday.
In an all-Championship League clash in south-east London, the 29-year-old Pennant netted clinically in the 11th minute to end the visitors' 10-game winless streak and propel them into the fourth round of the prestigious competition.
Beckford, on loan from Leicester City, had not scored since November 10 last year when Huddersfield last won with a 1-0 verdict over Barnsley.
The former Everton forward has now scored 16 goals for four different clubs in 19 FA Cup games. Beckford has been chased by the Jamaica Football Federation over the last year but has not yet signed to play for the national team.
Meanwhile, Jamaica-born Canadian international Simeon Jackson was also on target as Premier League outfit Norwich City dismissed Championship side Peterborough 3-0 at London Road Ground.
Playing away in east England, Jackson doubled the visitors' lead four minutes before half-time when he got on to the end of a long ball out of the back and lobbed the goalkeeper with a delightful finish.
Elliott Bennett had opened the scoring in the 30th and Robert Snodgrass put the game to bed in the 70th minute with Norwich's third goal.
In League Two, former Reggae Boyz star Deon Burton netted his tenth of the season to help fire leaders Gillingham to a 2-0 win over Bristol City at the Memorial Stadium.
Chris Whelpdale's volley gave the visitors the lead after just three minutes before Burton produced a moment of magic on the brink of half-time to shut Bristol out.
