UTT repeats as ASNL opening k/o winners

Daystar Swift and Jilisa Allan combined for nine goals as the University of T&T (UTT) outplayed Police 9-2 to repeat as champions in the Opening Day Premier Division Knockout Tournament of the 23rd season of the Courts All Sectors Netball League (ASNL), Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua on Saturday. 
 
Swift scored six of nine attempts and Allan, three of four while Kalifa Mc Collin and Joelisa Cooper each scored their one attempt for Police which trailed 5-1 at the half. 
 
In the semifinal round, UTT got the better of last year’s runner-up Fire Service 5-2 while Police won by default from Defence Force. 
 
Bermudez was crowned new champions in the Championship Division via a narrow 6-5 win over San Juan Jabloteh thanks to four goals from six attempts by Kathy James, and two of three from Joycelyn Marcelle. 
 
For Jabloteh, 2-3 behind at the half, LaToya Thomas had a perfect five goals from five attempts. In the quarterfinal round, UWI edged Defence Force 3-2 and Jabloteh pipped Fire Service 3-2 while in the semis, Bermudez and Jabloteh were 2-1 and 4-1 winners over UWI and Police respectively. 
 
TSTT also repeated as champions in the Alternative Division, 5-3 over UTT led by Sophia Harrington’s five goals from as much attempts. Chris Petrovani with two from four and Latisha Pitt, with one from two were the scorers for UTT. Earlier on, TSTT eked out a 3-2 victory over Police which had a first round default win over University of the Souther Caribbean while UTT also won by default from College of Science Technology and Applied Arts of T&T (Costaatt). League action serves off today with the Retrot Division from 5.30pm at the same venue with Complete Customer Services (CCS) meeting newcomers Les Femmes and Harlem versus Les Enfants.
