Forward Kerry McMillan impressed with a career-best 34 points, as he led his team, Beetham Gardens, to a surprising 75–70 victory over Morvant Jets when action resumed in the Hoop of Life Community Basketball League, on Saturday.
The key North Sector match was among the 23 fixtures played over the weekend. The result saw Beetham Gardens record only its second win in five outings, contrary to Morvant, which suffered its second loss from the same number of matches played.
McMillan, a former national youth player scored six of his team's last seven points when he sank two three-pointers, the first of which gave the visitors a 71–70 lead.
Also on Beetham's scorers' chart was Phillip Alexander who ended on 14 points. For Morvant Jets, forward Christopher Jack led the way with 18 points, while centre Dextroy and Christopher Lares aided with 17 points each.
A day later, Morvant travelled to the Raymond Reid Basketball Court at King George V Park, St Clair, and left with a 64–58 triumph over Belmont, to restore its chances of becoming one of the two qualifiers from the zone which will enter the league's second round. The meeting saw Morvant rally from a deficit to secure victory.
