Cocorite brothers tally 48 in win over Petit Valley
Brothers Kerron Williams, a forward, and point guard Gerard Toney combined for 48 points which guided Cocorite Sixers to a 75-60 win over Petit Valley when play in North West Sector continued at Cocorite Basketball Court, Waterhole, Cocorite.
Twelve matches were on offer in the Hoop of Life Community Basketball League on Tuesday night.
The teams waited out an early afternoon shower which left the court in the heart of the community well soaked, forcing the 6 pm jump-ball start to be delayed by 45 minutes. But the home team did not disappoint as fans supported from the windows above the venue.
Cocorite took a 22-17 first-quarter lead which swelled to 35-29 at the halfway stage. Petit Valley would not go away despite the home team’s strong crowd support, and after three sessions they were only three baskets adrift at 56-50.
However, it was in the fourth stanza that Cocorite distanced themselves with some superior play from Williams, who scored 17 of his game-high 30 points in the session, while Toney left midway in the fourth quarter with 18 points.
It was Cocorite’s second win in four matches. On Sunday the team went down to St James 44-48 in a shocker at Dibe in St James.
For Petit Valley, which dropped to a 2-3 record, forward Kemrick Julien was the game’s best scorer with 32 points and Von Julien had 17.
Meanwhile, Carenage smarting from a 46-74 blowout to Cocorite on Monday night, defeated St James 59-53 for their second win in five outings.
