Christopher Ramsaran...reated impression with his left arm chinaman and googly bowling

The inexperienced Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) remained winless in the 2013 Regional T20 tournament when they went down to the Windward Islands by 42 runs at the Queen’s Park Oval last night.

After their bowlers did a wonderful job in restricting the Windwards to 129 for seven off their 20 overs, the batsmen failed to negotiate the slow pitch. Their reply started in the best possible fashion when inform Chadwick Walton slammed the first ball from Garey Mathurin for a six. However, in the next over he was outfoxed by West Indies captain Darren Sammy who bowled him a leg-cutter that found the edge of his bat for Devon Smith to clean up at first slip.

After his dismissal, the CCC found two able men in Ramon Reifer and skipper Kyle Corbin and they took the score to 47 for one off eight overs. At this point, the students were in the game and actually in the ascendency.

However, a dramatic collapse in which they lost six wickets for 22 runs saw them slip to 69 for seven and the match was as good as over.

Earlier, the Windwards sent in to bat, struggled as the ball did not come on to the bat as they would have liked. Much depended on West Indies opener Johnson Charles but his dreadful series continued. He smashed a six and promised a lot but fell for 14 off 13 balls, as the Windwards innings failed to ignite in the ‘power play’ overs. Former West Indies players Andre Fletcher (7) and Devon Smith (7) both perished without making an impression and it took two forthright innings from Keddy Lesporis and skipper Darren Sammy to get them to a decent score.

Lesporis who plies his trade here locally, looked good and was comfortable again the spin twin Derone Davis and debutant Christopher Ramsaran. He clobbered 33 runs from 35 balls with two fours and a feature of his innings was his running between the wickets.

Just before the end, Sammy perished for 32 off 28 balls with two fours and a six. Ramsaran created quite an impression with his left arm chinaman and googly bowling, taking 1/13 off four probing overs.

Pacers Jason Holder 2/26 and Ramon Reifer 2/14 were also impressive on the night.
