Forward Shawn Lewis scored 18 of his match-high 30 points in the fourth quarter, but his effort was not good enough to see his team Arouca emerge victorious against Arima in a key fixture in East Sector-Two in the Hoop of Life Community Basketball League, on Thursday night.
Lewis was the player of the night at Arouca Basketball Court, Henry Street, Arouca. He pushed his team to a five-point lead (62-57), but his team's offence fell apart in the final two minutes when it was outscored 11-4 by the visitors.
Arouca scored just seven points in the first quarter to trail 19-7, but outscored its opponents 14-13 in the second half to trail 32-21. In the third stanza Arouca had outdone Arima 15-12 and in the fourth and deciding quarter 30-24, but Arima's team play proved the decider in the end.
Lewis got valuable support from Brian Didier who netted 13 points. For Arima, it was Kerron Stephen who led the challenge with 22 points, followed by Dominic Martin who added 11.
