Ramdin, Mitchell victorious in Finland

T&T senior women’s volleyball team duo, Darlene Ramdin and Delana Mitchell and their Pieksamaki club got 2013 off to a perfect start in the Finnish Naisten Liiga when they defeated Liiga Eura 25-17, 25-23, 25-18 on Wednesday.

With the victory, Pieksamaki moved up to 18 points and fifth spot to be in contention for the Championship playoffs for which the top six teams on the nine-team table will qualify. At the top of the table is LP Salo with 36 points from 14 matches, followed by HPC with 31, LP Kangasala (30) and OrPo with 22 while sixth-placed Wovo has 17.

 

Bialystok is bottom of the ten-team table with a meagre six points from 12 matches, three adrift of Siodemka Legionovia which has played a match more while Impel Wroclaw has 12 points from 13 matches in eight spot to occupy the final playoff spot.

 

At the top of the table is Muszynianka Fakro with 32 points from 13 matches followed by BKS Bielsko-Biala with 30 from 14 and Dabrowa Gornicza with 28 from 13 matches.

 

Over in Portugal, T&T’s Marc-Anthony Honore and SL Benfica lead  with 51 points at the top of the 12-team table from 18 matches while AJF Bastardo is second with 43 points, the same as SC Espinho while Castelo da Maia is next with 40.
