Windies women topple S Africans

West Indies women came back to life in their five match limited overs cricket series against South Africa yesterday, with an emphatic eight-wicket victory at the Windsor Park in St. Lucia.

Batting first the South Africans found the going tough and was bowled out for 120 off 47.1 overs. Mignon de Preez was the mainstay of the innings scoring a patient 20. The stars of the

West Indies were Shaquana Quintyne and eventual player of the match Stephanie Taylor who both grabbed four wickets apiece. Quintyne grabbed 4/14 and Taylor took 4/22. 

West Indies, set a very easy target reached their goal in the 30th over, as Taylor dominated the South African attack scoring 71. She was well supported by Kycia Knight who scored 24. Taylor was particularly destructive against the quicker bowlers as the spinners were able to get assistance from the pitch.

With the win the West Indies now has chance to get back in the series as they have cut the visitors lead to 2-1. 

Taylor and Knight got the West Indies off to a wonderful start posting 75 runs for the first wicket. After this the game was as good as over. Taylor continued to attack at the fall of Knight’s wicket and pushed the score to 111 before she left for 71. Shermaine Campbell and Deandra Dottin then took the team to victory with 20 overs to spare.
