Goal­shoot Daystar Swift had a match high 27 goals from 38 at­tempts as Uni­ver­si­ty of Trinidad & To­ba­go (UTT) be­gan de­fence of its Pre­mier Di­vi­sion ti­tle in the 23rd sea­son of the Courts All Sec­tors Net­ball League (ASNL) with a three-goal win over Po­lice at the East­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na, Or­ange Grove Road, Tacarigua, on Sat­ur­day.

In ad­di­tion to Swift, Jil­lisa Al­lan added a valu­able ten goals from 18 at­tempts as UTT held off Po­lice 37-34 af­ter se­cur­ing leads at the end of the first three quar­ters, 9-6, 21-15 and 29-26.

For Po­lice, na­tion­al goal at­tack and for­mer Fire Ser­vice play­er Joelisa Coop­er had a team high 21 goals from 26 at­tempts while the ex­pe­ri­enced Gur­shi­er Grant chipped in with 13 from 16, but it was not enough to de­ny the cham­pi­ons a win­ning start to the 2013 cam­paign to add to their open­ing day knock­out tour­ney tri­umph.

How­ev­er, it was na­tion­al goal shoot and for­mer Eng­land-based Anasta­cia Wil­son who stole the spot­light on the open­ing day of top flight match­es as she all most sin­gle-hand­ed­ly de­feat­ed Fire Ser­vice.Wil­son sank 45 of 61 at­tempts and Ki­marie James added one from three to guide De­fence Force past its bit­ter ri­val 46-43 af­ter trail­ing 33-34 to start the fi­nal quar­ter.
