They were at the top of the standings and have played unbeaten in their four matches up to last night's match against the Windward Islands in this regional T20 cricket tournament, but T&T players are taking no chances as they fix their eyes on the title.
At the Bay Gardens hotel on Monday night, the players were flooding team analyst Dinesh Mahabir with requests for footage and analysis of their innings to date in the tournament.
Mahabir said: "The guys are really keen on winning every match in this tournament and they are taking nothing for granted. They have been seeking me out since arriving here and I have been producing the footage and other pieces for them to help their game. I have met with a number of the players one-on-one and the head coach David Williams will then meet with them to discuss any flaws that has crept into their game in order to fix it."
At the team hotel on Monday night the talk centred around Shivnarine Chanderpaul and how the T&T team was able to stifle him using the technology they have at their disposal. After analysing footage of Chanderpaul before the T&T game, the T&T technical staff realised that he was scoring his runs behind the wicket on one side of the pitch. If he advanced down the pitch, he was not going through with his shots but just blocking the ball.
Although he got a half century in the 80-run loss to T&T, it took him all of 51 balls, which is pedestrian pace for T20 cricket. This was another point which emphasised the need for the analyst and the vision by the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) in seeing the value of having him included on the squad. The TTCB has also sent across a physio and a masseur in an effort to give the team all the support needed in their effort to return as champions.
