The Secondary Schools' Cricket League schoolboys' team will leave tomorrow for India where they will participate in the International Schools Premier League T20 tournament to be staged in Lucknow. The tournament will be contested from Friday to next Tuesday.
The SSCL officials have selected a strong team to represent the country but preparation to get the players in top shape for their inaugural outing in India was hampered by inadequate financial resources and unavailability of playing venues.
SSCL officials were assisted by Sports Analyst/Commentator Brij Parasnath who volunteered to assist in motivating the players to perform at their best. He advised that team spirit, positive mental attitude, fitness and hard work are some of the major components for ultimate success on the field of play.
Two practice matches were played, one against UWI St Augustine Campus team and the other against UTT Omera Campus team.
Wesley Dookhoo is the team's manager while Ravindra Ramnanan (SSCL's PRO) is the trainer who will work alongside coach Ramphal.
Also accompanying the team are SSCL's President, Sookoo Sonnylal (Team Leader) and Germaine Gray (Liasison Officer).
The full touring party includes Jovan Ali (Naparima Boys, Captain); Nicholas Pooran (Naparima College, Vice-Captain); Jesse Bootan (Hillview College); Jeremy Solazano (Hillview College); Bryan Charles (Presentation College, Chaguanas); Tion Webster (Barataria Secondary); Brian Christmas (Trinity College East); Dominic Nandlal (Siparia Secondary); Camillo Carimbocas (Fatima College); Shaquille McDavid (El Dorado East); Joshua Ramdoo (Fatima College); Justin Joseph (Carapichaima East Secondary); Miles Riley (Success Laventille Secondary); Matthew Hollingsworth (Fatima College) and Dejourn Charles (Signal Hill Secondary).
