AutoSport Racing Association (ARA) will stage the first motor-racing event for the year on Sunday at the Arima Race Course car park in Santa Rosa. This will be the hugely popular Drag and Wind(ing) (D&W) event that sees two cars, as they start off, literally drag racing against each other along a 500-foot straight, and then get into a winding course over two laps.
With this combination course, ARA has been able to attract a wide cross-section of drivers with an even wider variety of competing cars.
A briefing meeting for all competitors will be held today at MOSPORTT, Frederick Settlement, Caroni, at 7 pm, and with the interest shown by drivers who have not been able to exercise their driving skills for a while, there is a distinct possibility that a full complement of 60 drivers will be taking entry.
Last season, first-time competitor Stephen Hosein stood out. Driving his Honda Civic Sir he secured championship honours in the 1600cc Class 1B.
Also, young Kristian Boodoosingh, in his first auto-racing event in August, turned the top 4A class upside down with his superb driving skills, which he gained coming through the ranks of T&T Karting Association's young drivers programme.
