Au­toSport Rac­ing As­so­ci­a­tion (ARA) will stage the first mo­tor-rac­ing event for the year on Sun­day at the Ari­ma Race Course car park in San­ta Rosa. This will be the huge­ly pop­u­lar Drag and Wind(ing) (D&W) event that sees two cars, as they start off, lit­er­al­ly drag rac­ing against each oth­er along a 500-foot straight, and then get in­to a wind­ing course over two laps.

With this com­bi­na­tion course, ARA has been able to at­tract a wide cross-sec­tion of dri­vers with an even wider va­ri­ety of com­pet­ing cars.

A brief­ing meet­ing for all com­peti­tors will be held to­day at MO­SPORTT, Fred­er­ick Set­tle­ment, Ca­roni, at 7 pm, and with the in­ter­est shown by dri­vers who have not been able to ex­er­cise their dri­ving skills for a while, there is a dis­tinct pos­si­bil­i­ty that a full com­ple­ment of 60 dri­vers will be tak­ing en­try.

Last sea­son, first-time com­peti­tor Stephen Ho­sein stood out. Dri­ving his Hon­da Civic Sir he se­cured cham­pi­onship ho­n­ours in the 1600cc Class 1B.

Al­so, young Kris­t­ian Boodoos­ingh, in his first au­to-rac­ing event in Au­gust, turned the top 4A class up­side down with his su­perb dri­ving skills, which he gained com­ing through the ranks of T&T Kart­ing As­so­ci­a­tion's young dri­vers pro­gramme.
