Sportt delivers to Diego Martin
The result was not important when residents of Diego Martin turned up to enjoy a friendly cricket match between home team Merry Boys Cricket Club and Diamond United Cricket Club.
What was important was that the Sports Company (Sportt) had delivered the newly refurbished and upgraded Northern Regional Recreation Grounds to the area, as promised by Sport Minister Anil Roberts.
With great weather and the newly constructed outfield, installation of a new cricket turf pitch and drainage, a fun time was had by all.
Minister Roberts noted that residents of the area and various sporting clubs and enthusiasts now have access to the facility, which is the only major sporting field in Diego Martin.
The San Juan-based Monteco Creations Ltd. was the main contractor for the first phase of the upgrade project with works completed, in just over a year, in site clearance, drainage, outfield construction and installation of cricket turf pitch.
Work began in November 2011 and is one of more than 60 projects which the Sports Company will be upgrading and refurbishing across Trinidad in order to assist in the process of engendering community spirit while nurturing sporting talent at this level.
