The Digicel Pro League Championship will move to the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, with double-headers at the venue, today and tomorrow.
As a result of the unavailability of the Hasely Crawford Stadium, which has been booked for alternative events, and the Mannie Ramjohn and Larry Gomes stadiums both under major repairs, and with the Ato Boldon Stadium set to host next Wednesday's friendly international between T&T and Peru, the League has shifted the Round Two Match Day Five fixtures to the Macoya venue.
Today, second-positioned Caledonia AIA will challenge sixth-placed Police FC from 6 pm. Then, from 8 pm, this season's debutants Central FC will tackle runaway leader Defence Force.
Tomorrow, the new-look St Ann's Rangers will meet fourth-positioned North East Stars from 5 pm. Two hours later, defending champions DirecTV W Connection will face T&TEC FC from 7 pm.
The Marvin Lee Stadium, the only football-specific stadium on the island, was last used for a Pro League match almost two years ago following the pullout of tenants Joe Public from the top-tier league competition after the 2010-2011 season.
Housed together with the Joo Havelange Centre of Excellence, the stadium became the first venue in the Caribbean to have artificial turf (astroturf), which was made possible through a FIFA development grant in 2007. The first game played on the surface was a Pro League encounter in which Caledonia narrowly defeated Joe Public.
Six years since, Caledonia (20 points), eight points adrift of Defence Force, is seeking an outright win in chase of the soldiers, while keeping third- and fourth-positioned Connection and North East Stars, respectively, the latter two standing on 16 points each, separated solely on goal difference.
