Parkites seek to continue winning form in third round
Defending champions Queen’s Park Cricket Club will be hoping to continue their excellent form when round three of the National League 50-overs cricket series comes off today. The Parkites have won both their matches to date and will battle Esmeralda at the Queen’s Park Oval from 10 am. In the opening round, Queen’s Park slammed newcomers F&E Diamond United by a massive 126 runs at Kennedy Park in Diamond Village. Skipper Justin Guillen, who has been experiencing a purple patch lately, was the man leading the charge with 65.
The following day, the Oval Boys continued to dish out licks, as they sent Aranguez crashing to a humiliating 182-run defeat. In that match, they got the first century of the season with former West Indies youth player Jonathan Augustus striking a whirlwind 106. Today, they will be looking to him again to put on a good showing with the bat against Esmeralda. Queen’s Park is leading the standings in Group A with six points.
Joining Queen’s Park at the top of the standings is Clarke Road United, which has also secured two wins thus far. In the opening round, they took care of Moosai’s while on Sunday they had the better of Esmeralda in a rain-affected clash.
Propping up the standings are Aranguez and Diamond United with two losses from as many games. In Group B, PowerGen is ahead with two convincing wins. They whipped Alescon Comets by six wickets in their first game and Merry Boys by seven wickets in their second game.
W Connection Wanderers have refused to show for both of their games, as they have sent a pre-action protocol letter to the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) over a decision made by the disciplinary committee last season.
