Sprinter Michelle Lee Ahye began this season with a runner-up finish in the women's 50-metre finals dash at the Knights of Columbus Indoor Games in Saskatoon, Sakatchewan, Canada, on Thursday.
The Olympic and World Championships 100m semifinalist clocked 6.33 seconds to place second behind Olympic long jump champion Brittney Reese (USA), who won in 6.30. Canadians Crystal Emmanuel (6.38), Shai-Anne Davis (6.44) and Kimberley Hyacinthe (6.51) were next behind with American Shareese Woods (6.52) and Mariely Sanchez of the Dominican Republic (6.53) completing the field.
In the heats earlier in the day, Lee Ahye was second quickest (6.36) behind Reese (6.33) as the duo finished 1-2 in heat one.Lee-Ahye was expected to contest the 60m event last night (Friday).
Cordeo Gray (USA) captured the men's event in 5.79 leading an American sweep of the top three places with Rubin Williams (5.81) and Woodrow Randall (5.82) taking the second and third spots.
Olympic men's 400m silver medallist Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic was beaten into third in the 400m event. Santos clocked 49.23 to finish behind American Jamil Hubbard, 48.52, and Canada's Philip Osei, 49.14.
