Rebounding from a bout of illness, T&T sprint specialist Azikiwe Kellar took a 27th place finish in the preliminary stage of the flying 200m event, at the Pan American Cycling Championships, in Mexico City, Mexico, yesterday.

His time of 10.689 seconds was unfortunately insufficient in seeing Kellar advance to the stage of last 24 riders in the event. The race ended with an incredible 11 cyclists dipping below the ten second mark.

T&T’s Njisane Phillip’s record of 9.775 seconds was also rewritten in the process when the race winner Hersony Canelon of Venezuela finished in 9.709 seconds. T&T’s other representative in the discipline, Kwesi Browne was unable to participate in the race after he suffered a fall in the keirin event two days prior.

T&T’s other representative Varun Maharajh was also scheduled for action in the flying 250m event, which took off after press time last evening.
