T&T’s Varun Maharajh re-wrote yet another national record when he raced to an eighth placed finish in the 4km individual pursuit, when action continued in the six-event men’s omnium, at the Elite Pan American Cycling Championships, in Mexico City, Mexico, yesterday.

Maharajh, who only a day prior set a new national record in the flying 250m event (13.637), clocked in at 4:44.506 seconds for a creditable performance with just two races remaining. The final two events in the Omnium, the scratch race and the 1km time trial, were both scheduled for last evening after press time.

Prior to the individual pursuit, Maharajh competed in the flying 250m, in which he finished ninth, followed by a seventh placed finish in the points race. In the third event, the elimination event, Maharajh was the first to bow out, at which point dropped him into 10th position.
