Nicholas inspires Parkites to come from behind win

A dashing century from Petrock Nicholas and good allround bowling gave champions Queen’s Park Cricket Club a come from behind victory against Bamboo at Bamboo Village in the Premiership, yesterday.
After falling behind on first innings by 27 runs, Queen’s Park reached 282 - 5 in their second turn at the crease, then bowled out the home team for just 105 to win by 150 runs.
Nicholas hit 136 and together with Daron Cruickshank (63), put their team in a strong position to force the victory. Then Akeal Hosein grabbed 3-20, Uthman Mohammed (2/15) and Khary Pierre (2/29) to give their team full points.
There were also wins for Powergen, who crushed F&E Diamond by an innings and 89 runs and Comets who defeated Caldrac by 135 runs.
National and West Indies spinners Samuel Badree and Dave Mohammed both took seven wickets apiece in the match as Powergen cruised to their victory. F&E Diamond United could only add 11 runs to their overnight total of 84/9, as they were bundled out for 95 in reply to Powergen’s massive 325-3 declared. Following on F&E Diamond were dismissed 168.
At California, Caldrac fell for 151 in reply to Comets 251. In their second turn at the crease Comets declared at 152/5, with Richard Kelly hitting an unbeaten 53 and Andy Gobin making 39. Ancil Ned (2-44) and Dane Teelucksingh (2-39) were among the wicket takers for Caldrac. Chasing 253 for victory, Caldrac could only get to 117. Ancil Bhagan (4-44) and Kissoondath Magram (4-31) were the chief destroyers for Comets, who won by 135 runs.
In the other games, Merry Boys and Clarke Road battled to a draw while there was a similar result in the game between HKL Aranguez and Esmeralda at Aranguez.
The match between Merry Boys and Clarke Road was evenly poised heading into the second day. Resuming on 127/3 at the Wilson Road Ground, Clarke Road got to 224 to grab first innings points after Merry Boys were dismissed for 211 in their first innings.
Rangana Latchana topscored with 75 while Adrian Ali (34) and Sean Siloch (31) also made valuable contributions. Javed Ramdhanie picked up 5/35. In their second chance at the crease, Merry Boys reached 217 with Alcindo Holder and Troy Cornelius both making 46. Sanjiv Gooljar was again the best bowler for Clarke Road, grabbing 4/72.
At Aranguez, the home team took first innings against Esmeralda. After making 166, they dismissed the visitors for 113 and after a fine unbeaten 118 from Michael Browne, asked Esmeralda to chase 336 to win. However, Esmeralda hung on for the draw, thanks to a defiant 61 from Teshawn Castro.
