Cedros toddler Faith Henry died from complications linked to a scorpion sting, according to an autopsy performed yesterday. The post mortem by Dr Hubert Daisley said death was because of "scorpion envenomation with cerebral and pulmonary oedema."
In an interview, Faith's mother, Nandraka Henry, 28, of Chatham Village, Cedros, said she wanted answers about her daughter's death.She said Faith would still be alive if there had been a scorpion antidote available at health institutions.
Henry said she could still hear her daughter's screams when she was stung by the scorpion last Thursday.Faith started vomiting and was given three injections by medical personnel, it was stated. However, Nandraka said, they then had to wait for an ambulance to take them to the Point Fortin Area Hospital.
The child was attended to by doctors but after 40 minutes she was transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital.Faith, who was two-years-and-ten-months-old, died around 4 am last Friday.CEO of the San Fernando General Hospital, Anil Gosine, has launched an investigation into the death.
Faith will be buried at the Cap-de-Ville cemetery tomorrow after a service at the Cap-de-Ville Baptist Church.
