KINGSTOWN - Windward Islands captain, Liam Sebastien, opened his regional four-day season with a convincing, and crushing ten-wicket victory against Trinidad and Tobago at Arnos Vale over the weekend.
The ease of the win came as a surprise to Sebastien, after T&T were rolled over for just 86 runs in their second innings to leave the home team with six runs for victory on Sunday morning.
Tyrone Theophile saw off the victory in less than two overs with a straight drive down the ground, past Rayad Emrit for four, then a flick through the on-side for a couple. It gave the Windwards their second win in as many matches, and with Jamaica yet to play their second round game against the College students, the home side sit pretty at the top of the Regional 4 Day table on 24 points.
But having been ill for his side's first round win against the Combined Campuses & Colleges at the Beausejour Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia, Sebastien returned to lead his side against the Caribbean Twenty20 champions. Key players in Shane Shillingford and Keddy Lesporis were ruled out of the match a day before due to the same virus.
Yet, with two of the Windwards' players sitting out and two younger players coming in, T&T still failed to take advantage of their fortune.Sebastien was left elated with the way the Windwards won. He said after the game, "It's an excellent feeling to beat Trinidad in two and a half days. The other thing is missing two of our key starters in Lesporis and Shillingford makes it feel extra sweet."
Sebastien picked out Trinidad's obvious batting display as their weakness and what led to them eventually losing by 10 wickets. He admitted to being surprised by how easily T&T were rolled over, and thought the visitors failed to apply themselves in the conditions.
