First T&T Relay Carnival set for March 9
Students and clubs from the USA, Canada and the Caribbean region will challenge 32 local teams when the inaugural T&T Relay Carnival runs off at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, from March 9-10.
The event, which is being presented by the Ministry of Sport and the Sports Company of Trinidad & Tobago, is designed to prepare the athletes attending secondary schools, both physically and mentally, to enter major competitions, which includes the Penn Relays.
Penn Relays, also known as Penn Relays Carnival is the oldest trac It has been hosted annually since 1895 by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklyn Field, Philadelphia, with more athletes having participated in the event, than at any other track and field meet in the world.
The T&T Relay Carnival is set to be designed similarly in scale and hopes to become a marquee event on the athletics calendar. Entrance to the event on either day is $30 for adults and $10 for children. Gates open from 3 pm with the event set to start at 4.30 pm.
