A second-half brace from national midfielder Keyon Edwards was enough to guide Neal & Massy Caledonia to an advantage and ultimately victory, as the Morvant-Laventille club went within four points of the leader, Defence Force, when action continued in the Digicel TT Pro League, on Saturday evening.
The match, which opened a double-header at the Marvin Lee Stadium, saw the Caribbean Club Cup champion take advantage of Defence Force's slip-up to rock-bottom T&TEC, recorded 24 hours prior.
The night's other match saw Central FC continue a decent run of results with a 21 win over North East Stars in an electric affair, which saw the victors' coach Angus Eve dismissed. Despite former national striker Cornell Glen scoring his ninth goal of the campaign, Central FC scored quick-fire goals from Marvin Oliver (34th) and Jason Marcano (36th), for its fifth victory after 13 outings.
Caledonia, however, took the spotlight in its to-and-fro match with Rangers. The winning team was expected to claim victory to follow its round-one 21 win over the same opponents, while keeping tabs on the top of the table.
Akim Armstrong put Caledonia ahead in the 39th minute after beating Rangers' custodian Akel Clarke to a corner kick. Rangers responded just five minutes into the second half, before Edwards got his first item in the 65th. Edwards' goal followed a clash between the goalkeeper and recently introduced player Sheldon Holder.
Clarke was subsequently replaced by Zane Coker, who had to remove the ball from the back of the net twice later. Before that, however, Devon Modeste scored to give Rangers' it second equaliser of the match.
But, Caledonia wrapped up all three vital points when Edwards completed his double in the 81st, and the substitute Holder scoring a minute before the end of regulation time.
