Former national duo, Afeisha Noel and Simone Morgan combined to lead Fire Service to a close 38-35 victory over University of T&T (UTT), its first loss in five matches in the Premiership Division of the Courts All Sectors Netball League at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua on Saturday.
Goalshooter Noel led all scorers with 25 goals from 39 attempts while goal attack Morgan added 13 valuable goals from 17 attempts to lead former champions Fire Service to the narrow win after it held a comfortable 14-7, 25-16 and 33-22 advantage at the end of the first three quarters.
For UTT, goalshoot Daystar Swift and goal attack Jillisa Allan converted 17 goals each from 20 and 28 attempts respectively while another former national standout, Janelle Barker chipped in with one from three attempts for UTT.
In the other Premiership encounter, goal shooter Gursher Grant and national goal attack Joelisa Cooper inspired Police to a hard fought 45-42 defeat of rivals Defence Force after trailing for the first three quarters. Grant ended 31 goals from 38 attempts and Cooper, 14 from 19 as the Law-women overcame scores of 11-12, 23-25 and 33-34 over the first three quarters to outscore Defence Force 12-8 in the final period to snatch the win.
Long-serving national goalshooter Anastacia Wilson had a match-high 39 goals from 55 attempts and Kimeria James, three from, four in the losing effort for the "Teteron women".
It was a mixday for Police as their Championship Division women suffered a setback in the defence of their title, 25-31 to University of the West Indies (UWI).
For UWI, Abeni Taylor and Akeela Rodriguez each scored 15 goals while Jenice Mc Intosh had a team-high 14 for Police which led 9-5 and 13-10 at the end of the first two quarters before falling behind 20-24 at the end of the third.
Also in winners row in the Championship Division were Jabloteh and Fire Service, 31-24 and 36-35 over Defence Force and Bermudez respectively.
