Less than two weeks after the Carnival celebrations, which occupied the venue, the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, is ready for sporting action.
This is according to facilities manager at the Sports Company of T&T (SporTT) Anthony Blake who gave his stamp of approval after inspecting the facility on Friday. Accompanying Blake on the inspection were javelin coach Ismael Mastrapa, elite performance manager Tobias Ottley as well as junior architect, Stephen Spence.
"The first major event carded for the Stadium is the Carifta Trials on March 2nd and 3rd," said Blake, noting that immediately after Carnival, the facility underwent a complete sanitization. All infrastructure was dismantled and minor rehabilitation works were undertaken. "It is also important to highlight the comprehensive protection given to the IAAF A1 Certified Track to which there was no damage or deterioration," said Blake, who was entirely satisfied with the quality of coverage for the surface.
"Despite the thousands of patrons that flowed through the gates, we managed to preserve all the athletic surfaces, exactly as planned."
The Hasely Crawford Stadium was reopened for use by athletic and other clubs on 22 February and will be available for track and field, football and other sporting activities.
