Debutant Katwaroo leads rescue mission for T&T
BASSETERRE—Debutant Stephen Katwaroo was leading a rescue mission for T&T against Leeward Islands at the close of play on the first day of their regional four-day match at Warner Park in St Kitts, yesterday.
Katwaroo, playing his first regional four-day match, was undefeated on 54 as he tried to revitalise a wobbly T&T first innings which staggered to 254 for eight at stumps.
He was among three players who scored half-centuries to help resurrect the Trinidadians who lost top-order batsmen quickly to be reeling on 98 for the loss of four wickets.
Opener Adrian Barath and middle order batsman Yannick Ottley scored 58 runs each against impressive bowling spells from pacer Quinton Boatswain and Gavin Tonge.
Barath struck ten fours and a six and soldiered on long enough as top-order partners collapsed around him while Yannick Ottley played a key role in stabilising the innings.
Katwaroo has been drafted in for Denesh Ramdin, who is representing the West Indies against Zimbabwe in their two-match T20 series this weekend.
The wicketkeeper, one of five new players inserted into the squad, has already struck eight fours and is playing a responsible innings as T&T head for a more respectable total.
Boatwain ended the day with leading figures of four for 75 while Tonge has already bagged two for 52. (CMC)
