Journeyman Noel Williams missed out on a chance at a hat-trick while Police missed a rare chance for a Digicel T&T Pro League victory in an entertaining 3-3 draw with fellow strugglers St Ann's Rangers on Wednesday night.
This was in a re-scheduled match at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
Despite missing out on the treble, Williams netted two second-half items while Kareem Perry got the other for Police only for former national futsal (five-a-side small goal) player Marvin "Tiny" Lee to reply with a hat-trick for Rangers in their rescheduled Round Two Match Day Six clash.
Lee, a former Joe Public player, first punched Rangers ahead 1-0 in the 13th minute by poking in a low Ryan O'Neil cross past Police third choice goalie Anthony Marshall at the near post.
Four minutes later, Rangers had a great opportunity to double the advantage when Muhammad Nakid was set free by a Devon Modeste pass. However, the midfielder squandered his curling strike inches wide with only Marshall to beat and three supporting players at his disposal.
Police tried desperately to level the scores before the break with Perry, Todd Ryan and Williams all coming close, however they weren't successful until the second period.
In the 21st minute striker Perry failed to put a header off Dexter Alleyne's cross on target, and in the 28th minute Rangers' goalkeeper Zane Coker pulled off a magnificent save to deny Todd Ryan's effort destined for the far upper corner.
Winger Williams then shaved the upright in the 45th minute with a glancing header off an Anton Hutchinson free kick whipped in from the right as the lawmen trailed a goal.
Two minutes into the second half, Williams was at it again forcing a save out of Coker while at the other end Rangers capitalised on their opponents' failure to score by doubling their lead in the 49th minute with Lee snatching his second on the night.
A quick release by Keifer Edwards on the right beating the outstretched legs of left back Alleyne, allowed Modeste a free run into the area before slipping a pass to Lee inside the area to hammer past Coker.
The second goal by Rangers sparked the lawmen into life as they hit back with three unanswered goals for a surprising 3-2 lead.
Williams finally pulled one back in the 53rd minute when he headed in a long Christon Thomas cross at the back post beating Coker to reduce the deficit to 2-1 while Perry levelled the scores at 2-2 four minutes later with a low strike and on the hour mark.
Williams got his second of the match with a clinical finish after being put through by a Elijah Belgrave's following an excellent build-up by the lawmen.
In the end, both teams had to settle for the share of the points which left Police sixth with 11 points, one ahead of Rangers, both from 14 matches.
League matches will resume tomorrow at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macaoya with a double-header from 5 pm.
In the opener, Police battles cellar-placed T&TEC which is coming off a morale boosting 1-1 draw with leaders Defence Force which faces Rangers two hours later.
