Defence Force hunt for win against Rangers

Defence Force will be confident of getting back to winning ways and extending its lead at the top of the Digicel T&T Pro League standings when it faces St Ann’s Rangers in the feature match of a double-header at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, from 7 pm this evening. Currently, the “Teteron Boys,” who have lost only once in 14 league matches, a 4-2 defeat to second-placed Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA back on September 14, top the table with 33 points, four ahead of its closest challenge while defending champion DirecTV W Connection has 25 and fourth-placed North East Stars, 20, but with a match in hand.

However, the Ross Russell-coached Defence Force has stumbled in recent weeks drawing two of their last three league matches including 1-1 with cellar-placed T&TEC last week and Central FC, but will start as favourites having beaten tonight’s opponents 2-1 and 8-0 in their previous league encounters this campaign.

Rangers, on the other hand, has not won in the league since a January 12, 1-0 win over T&TEC—a run of five matches—but will be buoyed by their thrilling 3-3 draw with Police on Wednesday last at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, which came on the back of a determined display in a 2-4 loss to Caledonia last Saturday at Macoya. Two hours prior, T&TEC, bottom of the table with five points and Police, sixth with 11 points, do battle with both teams in search of much needed points.
