Elton Walcott picked up a silver medal in the men's triple jump at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships in Lubbock, Texas on the weekend. Walcott (South Plains) took the runner-up spot with a indoor personal best distance of 15.82, missing out on the top spot by one centimetre. Walcott is the elder brother of Olympic men's javelin gold medalist Keshorn Walcott.
He also holds the national junior record (16.43) and is a four-time Carifta champion. His South Plains team-mate Shu-Shauna Mason was third in the women's 60m finals with 6.95, equalling the time she clocked in the heats. Mason was also seventh in the 200m in 24.92. Kernesha Spann (Western Texas) finished fifth in the women's 400m finals in an indoor personal best of 56.11 improving on the 56.66 set in the heats when she ran the third fastest time.
Iowa Central's Jessica James was also fifth in the women's 600m finals (1:35.43) clocking the third fastest in the heats (1:35.43). James was also eighth in the 800m finals (2:24.98. Abiane Collymore (Barton County) was 11th in the prelims (2:28.58) and did not qualify for the finals. South Plains swept the men's and women's team titles.
