St Mary's College got the better of their Under-16 counterparts from Fatima College 15-12 in the First Citizens National Secondary Schools Water Polo League last weekend.
Justin Bola put Fatima ahead in the third minute, and Adam Alexis soon made it 2�0. Bola added another and Daniel West made it four goals as St Mary's replied through Christian and James Gillette, at the first quarter stage, which ended 4�2.
The Saints turned the game around in the second quarter with Christian Gillette adding two to his first half goal and Adrian Hinds and Tristan Duval getting doubles. Fatima replied through Kristine Sharpe's double to leave the Saints 8�6 ahead at the half.
The game see-sawed in the third period, Fatima scoring 4�1 over the Saints, with Sharpe scoring three and West one. The lone goal for CIC came from Christian Gillette, leaving the Saints in front 10�9.
Nabeel Hussein equalised and Alexis put Fatima ahead once again. With the 20 second exclusion foul on Jordan De Freitas of Fatima, Hinds used the opportunity to tie the scores. Then the Gillettes would each help take CIC ahead, with Hinds pounding in the last two nails in the coffin. West replied for Fatima but St Mary's cemented their victory to guarantee a spot in the final.
In other games over the weekend, both Providence and Bishop Anstey High School lost to St Joseph's Convent, Port-of-Spain among the under-16s. In the senior category, Fatima College defeated the combined schools team, while CIC was victorious over Queen's Royal College.
In the Under-14 category, Fatima defeated St Mary's. In the Form 1 category, Bishop Anstey High School lost Providence, but defeated St Joseph's Convent, while Fatima and QRC got the better of St Anthony's and CIC respectively.
