Team West, captained by Douglas Ammon, sealed the Ash Ali Cup by one point after wins in the Seniors, Men and Ladies divisions of competition, when the tournament teed off at Millennium Lakes Golf and Country Club, Trincity and St Andrew's Golf Club, Moka, over the weekend.
The tournament was staged over two days under a Ryder Cup-style format, with members of the East and South golf clubs pitted against those from the West and North.On day one, Team West dominated play at Millennium Lakes, taking 4.5 points to East's 2.5. Day two saw the tables turn on Team West as the East team rallied with a comeback of 4 to 3 points. In the women's competition, the West team dominated play on both days with national junior players Ysabelle Lawrence and Christina Ferreira needing just 12 holes to take the win. Only one pairing took the full 18 holes for a winner to be declared.
The teams in the Juniors, which comprised Sol Joanni and Ana Ferreira (East) and SamAvey and Serena Mac Kenzie (West), arrived at the 16th tee box tied. Joanni/Ferreira took the following two holes to seal the win for East.Easy wins came for the East for Super Seniors' Monty Chapman and Arjune Samlal, Men's Wan Ju Lee, Dave Rajkumar, Dinesh Jackree and Richard Rampersad, while the West won the Seniors with Richard Camacho and Michael Commissiong and Men's Patrick Boocock and Deryck Gonsalves.
