T&T's women's hock­ey team re­mained win­less and at the bot­tom of the six-team ta­ble with host Brazil, af­ter a sec­ond straight loss in the sec­ond round qual­i­fiers of the FIH World Hock­ey League at the De­odoro Field Hock­ey Cen­tre, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, yes­ter­day.

Fol­low­ing a 7-0 drub­bing by world 19th-ranked Scot­land on Mon­day, the "Ca­lyp­so Stick­women," ranked 27th in the world were hope­ful of a much im­proved per­for­mance against their Pan Amer­i­can ri­vals.

How­ev­er, 18th-ranked Chile, 2-0 win­ners over Uruguay in its open­er, was in no mood to play sec­ond fid­dle and took the lead through Car­oli­na Gar­cia af­ter on­ly three min­utes while Mar­i­ana La­gos dou­bled its ad­van­tage in the 16th for a 2-0 lead while Javiera Vi­la­gra made it 3-0 six min­utes be­fore the in­ter­val.

Six min­utes in­to the sec­ond half, Vi­la­gra got her sec­ond of the match as the South Amer­i­cans put the match be­yond doubt be­fore Paula In­fante added two late items in the 67th and 68th to com­plete a com­mand­ing 6-0 tri­umph.

With the win, Chile joined USA and Scot­land at the top of the stand­ings with six points each af­ter two match­es, while Uruguay, Brazil and T&T re­mained with­out a point.

In the day's oth­er match, USA downed Uruguay 3-0, while Scot­land con­tin­ued its free scor­ing, blitz­ing Brazil 7-0.

To­day, the Alan­na Lewis-cap­tained "Ca­lyp­so Stick­women" will have re­venge on their minds when they meet Uruguay from 2.30 pm.

It will be the sec­ond meet­ing be­tween the two coun­tries in five months, af­ter Uruguay won their No­vem­ber 12, 2012 Round One qual­i­fy­ing meet­ing in T&T, 2-0 en­route to fin­ish­ing sec­ond be­hind un­beat­en Cana­da while the lo­cals were third with three wins and two de­feats.

Chile and Brazil will flick off the day's ac­tion from 8 am fol­lowed by Scot­land and USA, two hours lat­er, in a key con­test which could go a long way in de­ter­min­ing top spot.

At the end of the six-team round-robin se­ries on Sun­day, the two high­est fin­ish­ers will se­cure places in round three.
