Reign­ing Carif­ta cham­pi­ons Mark Lon­don, Chelsea James, Kene­jah Williams, And­wuelle Wright and Jonathan Far­in­ha have been named in a team of 44 ath­letes (18 girls, 26 boys) se­lect­ed by the Na­tion­al As­so­ci­a­tion of Ath­let­ics Ad­min­is­tra­tions (NAAA) to rep­re­sent T&T at the 42nd an­nu­al Carif­ta Games in Nas­sau, Ba­hamas, from March 29 to April 1.

Lon­don copped the Boys' Un­der-20 800m crown at last year's Games in Bermu­da and al­so picked up the bronze in the 1500m.The Zenith dis­tance run­ner will do bat­tle in both events yet again. Lon­don booked his spot af­ter run­ning the qual­i­fy­ing times at the Carif­ta tri­als last week­end and al­so at the South­ern Games heats last month.

The Bish­op High stu­dent was al­so a dou­ble win­ner at the Sec­ondary Schools Cham­pi­onships ear­li­er this week.James is the 2012 Carif­ta Girls' U-17 shot put win­ner and will be seek­ing to re­tain her ti­tle and al­so im­prove on the 14.02 cham­pi­onship record she set in Bermu­da.The Sig­nal Hill Sec­ondary/To­ba­go Fal­cons ath­lete will al­so com­pete in dis­cus.

Williams land­ed the Boys' U-17 Carif­ta dis­cus crown last year and will con­test the Boys' un­der-20 shot put and dis­cus events.

Wright will be look­ing to re­tain his Boys' U-17 long jump crown. The Sig­nal Hill Sec­ondary stu­dent was sec­ond at the tri­als in 6.93 be­hind Che Richards (6.98). At the Sec­ondary Champs Wright emerged ahead of Richards (6.77 to 6.74).Far­in­ha is among two ath­letes se­lect­ed to con­test the boys un­der-20 200m. The 2012 Carif­ta boys U-17 win­ner has al­so been named as part of T&T's boys un­der-20 4x100m and 4x400m teams. Olympian and 2011 dou­ble Carif­ta cham­pi­on Machel Ce­de­nio is al­so in the con­tin­gent and will run in the boys un­der-20 400m and 4x400m races.

Reign­ing CAC Ju­nior Boys' U-18 Oc­tathlon win­ner Kevin Roberts and 110m hur­dles champ Reubin Wal­ters have al­so been in­clud­ed along with for­mer Carif­ta cham­pi­on Shaunna Downey and 2012 CAC Ju­nior gold medal­lists Cherisse Mur­ray, Do­minique Williams and Hezekeil Romeo.
