Caledonia takes $250,000 third prize in Hoop for Life

Caledonia captured the third prize of $250,000 in the Hoop of Life Community Basketball League after defeating La Romaine 73-60 in game-two of the Big-Four third place play-off. After losing the first match 89-77 on Wednesday, Caledonia needed to win by 13 points at the Paradise Heights Basketball Court, Morvant.
Playing in front of their fans, Caledonia coached by Ruthvan Glean, got the perfect start with six points from its captain Wilt Vincent and seven from Kyeon Joseph to lead 21-12 after the first quarter.
La Romaine never looked ready for the challenged and fell 34-21 behind at half-time.
In the third session, La Romaine led by Adrian Joseph and national point- guard Derrick Boxill showed some fight despite being out-scored 20-16, but their deficit was 17 points (54-37) as the stanza ended.
La Romaine did not have the crowd support of the past 12 matches.
Forward Joseph led all scorers with 18 points, Wesley Vincent supported with 16 and Wesley’s brother and team captain Wilt finished with 14.
For La Romaine, Joseph had 14 points, Delroy Agard added 12, Boxill and Kevin Sargent (10).
Last night, Laventille and Marabella met in the first of a three-match final for the grand prize of $1 million
