Alescon Comets improved their lead in the National Cricket League when they defeated Bamboo by 13 runs at Bamboo yesterday. Set 227 for an unlikely victory, Bamboo put up a good fight to reach 213, but were undone by Zard Clarke who took 6-60. Richard Ali (45) and Samuel Felix (38), put some fright into the league leaders, but once Clarke began the destruction, the chase proved too much for the 10th placed team.
Comets were the only team to record an outright win on the weekend, as all the other games were drawn.
Geetendra Sookdeo's first innings century (121) was only enough to give Moosai first innings points against Queen's Park at Moosai's ground. The Parkites trailed by 51 runs after getting to 260. Petrock Nicholas top-scored with 58. He was well supported by Akeal Hosein (49). Off spinner Aneil Kanhai was the pick of the bowlers, grabbing 3/57 while Ken Hazel grabbed 2/25. Moosai closed at 211/7 with Navin Stewart (56) and Kjorn Ottley (52) both getting half centuries. Daron Cruickshank was the Parkites best bowler with 4/42.
At Syne Village Gregory Mahabir hit an unbeaten 139 as Powergen took first innings points over Clarke Road, while Vishal Singh's unbeaten 97 was not enough to give F&E Diamond first innings points over Aranguez.
