D’Abadie takes lead in t-tennis Second Division

D’Abadie Youths opened a two-point lead at the top of the T&T Table Tennis Association Second Division Inter-Team Championship after a comfortable 4-1 defeat of the T&T under-18 boys team at PowerGen Sports Club, Flament Street, Port-of-Spain, on Thursday. For D’Abadie, Declan John came from a set down to beat Kourdell Powell 3-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 for a 1-0 lead in the best of six match tie, but Andreus Pantin got the national junior boys training squad even when he battled past George Belfon, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8.

Carlisle Cleveland restored D’Abadie’s lead at 2-1 via his 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 spanking of Che’Pierre Fournillier before Belfon paired with Edwin Humphreys for an 11-9, 11-8, 14-12 doubles victory against the Fournillier/Powell combination and a 3-1 lead overall. Humphreys then returned and wrapped up the series by beating Samuel Thomas 11-4, 11-5, 11-1 to carry his team to 20 points from seven matches, two more than Arima Hawks while Solo Crusaders ‘B” and Montrose United are next with 16 points each from six and seven matches, respectively.

The University of T&T got only its second win in six matches after it outclassed Solo Crusaders A 4-1 on Wednesday to lie fifth on the 11-team table with 11 points from six matches while Crusaders ‘A’ stayed eighth after a 3-3 draw with UWI on Thursday. Today, D’Abadie Youths are at home to UWI at the D’Abadie Community Centre, D’Abadie, at 7 pm, while tomorrow six matches are on schedule.
