Defence Force holds Police in thrilling draw

Defence Force made sure it would secure at least a point from its ten matches in the Championship Division of the Courts All Sectors Netball League after playing to an entertaining 40-40 draw with rivals Police at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua, on Tuesday. 

With Bermudez wrapping up the divisional league title one day earlier, last year’s champion Police was only left to finish its campaign with second spot already in the bag, while Defence Force was eager to avoid going pointless from its campaign.

In the end, both teams played out an exciting contest with Police surging ahead 10-6 at the end of the first quarter before Defence Force pulled its way back to take a 20-18 half-time lead.

The third period was also a close battle with the “Teteron netballers” staying ahead 29-27 before Police battled its way back in the final period to steal a 40-40 draw.

Police goal shoot Patrice Goring was the top scorer in the match with 39 goals from 52 attempts and Donnesa Wickham one from five, while Melissa Snaggs led Defence Force with 34 goals from 49 attempts.

Also on Tuesday, Aquila Blugh and Nariba Grant converted 18 goals each for Fire Service to edge past Jabloteh 36-35 and cement third spot.
